We built this room heater for the elderly with one thing in mind: warmth, right now. No waiting around for some bulky heat exchanger to slowly warm up the air. Instead, we went straight for a high-output halogen infrared lamp. The heart of it is a shortwave infrared tube, packed into a small space. It throws off a serious amount of heat, so you get that intense, targeted warmth without tripping the circuit breaker. The Power Behind the Warmth This thing runs at 2500W, powered by a 400V supply. It’s the right power level to really push that halogen element, giving you that deep, radiant heat, all while keeping the electrical load manageable for a standard wall outlet. The tube itself is just 300mm long. That means all that heat is focused into a specific area, which makes it easy to mount and aim exactly where you need it. It heats up fast, and the output is steady. But, because it runs so hot, the housing and the wiring inside are all built to handle that constant high heat. What It’s Made Of We chose a halogen-filled quartz envelope for the tube. It’s tough enough to handle the extreme temperatures needed for shortwave infrared and won’t crack from the heat. The halogen inside also helps keep the output strong and steady over time, so you won’t get that dimming effect as the lamp ages. And for the connection, we went with an R7s connector. It’s a standard, reliable choice that holds the tube securely and handles the power without a problem. The best part? It’s a direct replacement for many common fixtures, so swapping out a tube is quick and easy. Warmth Where It Counts When you’re heating a room for an elderly person, you’re not trying to warm the whole atmosphere. You want to warm the person, and the surfaces right around them. This heater does exactly that. It delivers direct, radiant heat with almost no moving air, which means it’s whisper-quiet. The whole design is simple and straightforward, making it easy to install and service. Just a couple of things to keep in mind. The tube gets incredibly hot, so it needs proper shielding and a safe distance to prevent any accidental burns. And because it runs on 400V, it needs to be paired with the right control and safety circuit.
