
Getting Your Oven Temp Exactly Right
We build 500W infrared lamps for automated deck ovens because, let’s be honest, waiting for a massive oven chamber to warm up is a waste of time. Instead of relying on hot air to drift around, these lamps beam heat directly onto the product. It’s fast. Really fast. And that changes everything for your workflow.
Why 500W?
We landed on 500W because it hits that sweet spot. It’s powerful enough to get that perfect crust going quickly, but not so aggressive that you end up with scorched tops. But here is the thing: the lamp is only half the battle. You need a PID controller to manage the power. If you try to run these on a basic on/off thermostat, your temperatures will swing all over the place. You’ll end up with some batches underdone and others burnt. No one wants that. By using SCR or PWM, you keep the heat locked in a tight window.
Making It Fit
Nobody wants to rebuild their entire oven chassis just to swap a part. That’s why we do custom lengths and connectors. We want these to be a “drop-in” fit. We use quartz for the tubes because it lets the heat through beautifully. We can even coat them to tweak where the heat goes. Instead of wasting energy warming up the oven walls, we focus the heat right where it belongs: on the dough.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
High-density heat is great, but it can be a bit temperamental. If you aren’t careful, that concentrated energy can melt nearby plastic sensors or fry your wiring insulation. Check your cable routing. Keep your high-temp leads out of the lamp’s direct line of sight. If you have wires within 10cm of the tube, go with PTFE-coated wiring. Trust me, it’s better than dealing with a burnout mid-shift. Plus, if you hook these up to a central PLC, you can tweak your heat profiles on the fly. If you speed up the conveyor, the heat scales up to match. It just works.
