Let’s be honest: OEM replacement lamps for imported ovens are ridiculously expensive. It feels like you’re paying a “brand tax” just for a piece of glass. But here’s the thing. You can’t just grab any tube off a shelf. When you’re looking for a replacement for your auxiliary heating, you’re not just buying a lightbulb—you’re trying to match the exact heat and electrical pull of your oven’s original design. Get it wrong, and you’ve got a problem. The electrical side of things Most of these industrial heaters run on 220V or 380V. If you pick a lamp with the wrong wattage for the length, you’re headed for trouble. You’ll either end up with pale, under-browned bread or a filament that burns out way too fast. Short-wave lamps are great because they hit the crust with an immediate punch of heat. It’s perfect for that golden sear. But be careful—they put a lot of stress on your contactors. Before you swap them in, just double-check that your wiring and relays can actually handle the amp draw. You don’t want to fry your electronics just to save a few bucks on a lamp. What’s actually inside the glass? We use high-purity quartz because it doesn’t crack when the temperature swings wildly. These tubes are filled with halogen, which basically acts like a recycling system for the tungsten filament. It keeps the filament from thinning out and snapping prematurely. You’ll usually see two options: clear or coated. Clear is standard. Coated tubes shift the heat to a “medium-wave.” This means the heat sinks deeper into the dough, though it takes a bit longer to get up to temperature. Depending on what you’re baking, one might work better than the other. The “gotchas” of installation Check your connectors first. Whether you’re dealing with an R7s or some weird specialized pin-base, a loose fit is a nightmare. It creates an arc point, and that’s a quick way to melt your housing. And a word of warning on the “budget” options. Cheap quartz doesn’t handle thermal shock well. If your cooling fans decide to quit, a low-grade lamp will shatter a lot faster than the OEM version. Lastly, measure the length to the millimeter. Seriously. If it’s too tight, you’re putting mechanical stress on the glass, and that’s how you get a broken tube before you’ve even turned the oven on.
