
Getting Your Heat Right: A Better Way to Handle Sacmi SBF 12/24 Lamps
If you’ve ever stared at a batch of bottles with cold spots or weirdly thin walls, you know exactly how frustrating it is. Usually, it’s not your settings—it’s the lamps. In PET blowing, if the heat isn’t hitting the preform evenly, you’re fighting a losing battle. That’s why we built our replacement lamps for the Sacmi SBF 12/24 and KHS lines. We wanted to fix those annoying thermal gaps.
The problem with “End-Loss”
Here’s the thing: most standard lamps have a habit of dropping off in heat right near the connectors. It’s called “end-loss,” and it leaves you with uneven heating. We fixed this by changing how the filament is wound. By pushing more energy toward the edges of the tube, we flattened the heat curve. Now, the preform gets a consistent soak from top to bottom. It means you can finally stop messing with temperature offsets on your control panel just to get a decent bottle.
The nitty-gritty stuff
These are simple drop-in replacements. They fit the SBF 12/24 footprint exactly. We use high-purity quartz glass because, let’s be honest, rapid cycling is brutal on equipment. The glass needs to handle that thermal shock without cracking. Depending on your voltage, we’ve spec’d these for high-wattage density. This lets us keep the heat flux where it needs to be without blowing a circuit. Plus, we use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. You just slide them into your existing sockets. No rewiring, no headaches.
Real-world talk: The trade-off
Using high-density quartz lamps is great for throughput. You can shorten your heating cycle and move more product. But there is a catch. When you pump more IR energy into the preform, the inside of the oven gets hotter. If your cooling fans are clogged with dust or just aren’t up to the task, you might overheat your reflectors. Keep your airflow clean. If you do, these tubes will hold up under the pressure of a 24/7 production schedule. The payoff? Way less scrap and a lot more peace of mind.
