Stop Letting Moisture Kill Your Infrared Heaters
Let’s be honest: water and electricity are a terrible match. If you’re heating tables in an industrial setting, you know the drill. Steam, condensation, or just a random splash can turn a perfectly good heater into a piece of scrap metal in seconds. It’s frustrating. We got tired of seeing it happen, so we built a waterproof version of our infrared heaters to end that cycle.
Why they actually break
Here is what’s happening under the hood. Standard lamps usually die because moisture sneaks past the seal or settles on the quartz tube. When a drop of cold water hits that scorching hot glass, it creates “thermal shock.” The glass cracks—sometimes so small you can’t even see it—but once that vacuum is gone, the filament burns out. Just like that, your production line stops. We fixed this by adding a splash-proof housing and seals that fight off fog. We also moved the electrical terminals away from the heat zone. This stops “tracking,” which is just a fancy way of saying moisture creates a shortcut for electricity to short out your circuit.
Built to actually last
We start with a high-purity quartz tube, but we don’t leave it bare. We added a special coating to the outside to keep it from fogging up. This means the heat goes exactly where it needs to go, instead of getting scattered by a layer of mist. The seals are where the real magic happens. We use high-temp silicone gaskets. They stay tight even when the metal expands and contracts from the heat. It means you can drop these into a humid environment and stop worrying about your connectors corroding or your wiring getting damp.
The trade-off
Now, there is a catch. Because we’ve added a protective layer between the heat and your target, the radiation pattern is a little different than a naked lamp. You might need to tweak your mounting distance to get the heat hit just right. But look at the alternative. You can keep replacing lamps every few months because of “mystery” burn-outs, or you can use a slightly larger assembly and forget about it for a long time. For us, that’s an easy choice.
