If you’ve ever run a patio or a bar, you know the deal. Your outdoor heaters have a rough life. They go from freezing rain and humidity to blistering heat the second you flip the switch. Here’s the secret: it’s rarely the heating element itself that gives out. Usually, the real trouble starts at the lead-wire junction. The “Baking” Problem Think about where the electrical wire meets that quartz tube. In a lot of cheap heaters, that spot is held together with basic glue or some loose gaskets. But when that heater runs, it gets hot. Really hot. Over time, that heat basically bakes the sealant until it cracks. Once you’ve got a crack, rain and moisture sneak in and hit the live terminals. That’s when you get a short circuit, a pop, and a heater that won’t turn back on. Doing it the Right Way We decided to stop playing that game. Instead of using generic glues that crumble, we use high-temp silicone potting and reinforced compression seals. It creates a tight, airtight barrier. The important part is that this seal can expand and shrink as the temperature swings without pulling away from the glass or metal. If that seal isn’t perfect, your wire insulation is going to fry in a couple of seasons. A Small Trade-off Now, there is one thing to keep in mind. Because this sealing is so heavy-duty, the wire assembly is a bit more rigid. You can’t just bend these wires into a sharp angle during installation. If you force a tight bend, you might put too much stress on the seal. Just give them a little breathing room and you’re golden. We build these for places where a broken heater is a nightmare.
