Ever pull a batch of bottles off the line and realize the walls are uneven? Or worse, they’re totally deformed? It’s a headache. Most of the time, it comes down to poor heat distribution in your KHS machines. We see it all the time when people try to save a few bucks with generic replacement lamps. The heat just isn’t where it needs to be, and your preforms suffer for it.
The real struggle with heat
Here’s the thing: getting that heat perfectly even isn’t magic, it’s just physics. It all depends on where the filament sits and how the quartz tube lets the heat out. We spend our time engineering IR lamps that keep a steady temperature from one end to the other. Why? Because you don’t want “hot spots” scorching your PET, and you definitely don’t want “cold spots” leaving the plastic under-stretched and weak. Now, if you’re looking at wattage-to-length ratios, remember that high-wattage tubes are great for cranking up your cycle speeds. But there’s a catch—they put a lot more stress on the quartz.
What’s under the hood
We use high-purity quartz glass because it lets the IR radiation through without fighting it. We also keep the filaments centered with a very tight tolerance. This keeps the radiation pattern symmetrical, so you aren’t guessing where the heat is going. Most of these are standard R7s or SK15 connectors, so they just drop right in. No fuss. We also put a lot of work into the coating. We want that heat reflecting inward toward the preform, not wasting energy by heating up your machine frame.
The trade-off you need to know about
More heat density means you can push out more bottles, faster. Sounds great, right? But keep an eye on your cooling fans. When you run these lamps at full tilt, your oven’s thermal load spikes. If your ventilation is clogged or just too small for the job, your sockets are going to overheat and burn out. It’s a quick way to kill a good lamp. The good news is we’ve tuned these to match the original KHS thermal footprint. That means you can keep your current blowing parameters exactly as they are. You won’t have to spend your afternoon rewriting PLC heating profiles. You get the same performance as the OEM parts, but the pricing actually makes sense for high-volume wholesale.
